The Senate Transportation Committee expects to recommend a bill as
early as Wednesday that would grant driver identification cards to
Vermont residents who are in the country illegally. And committee
members say theyre preparing to take a lot of heat for the bill.
The
measure would authorize the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue the
ID cards, which would look different from a regular state license. The
committee will take up the legislation again Wednesday morning, and
could vote to send it to the full Senate.
As the country
continues to debate broad issues surrounding undocumented immigrants, a
lot of people and agencies in Vermont have come out in favor of the
bill, including Gov. Peter Shumlin.
I really want to see the
bill for undocumented workers pass this session, Shumlin told reporters
last week. Its no secret that this nation has an immigration policy that
leaves a lot to be desired. And its no secret that Vermont farmers cant
get their product to market without the help of guest laborers.Welcome

Weve
made it so that it wouldnt ever be used as a federal ID, Shumlin added.
Its very clearly marked to be different from other drivers licenses
that Vermont residents use.
Migrant farm workers and their
supporters have been lobbying for this bill for more than two years.
Life for us C for myself and all the farm worker communities living in a
rural state without a drivers license C is very difficult, said Danilo
Lopez, a spokesman for the group Migrant Justice. Lopez and other
migrant advocates have been at the Statehouse for much of this
legislative session to show their support.
We always find
ourselves depending on other people, whether thats employers or even
sometimes people who charge us really high prices so that we can get
around and move around with basic freedom, he said.
Lopez said
the IDs would allow the migrant community the opportunity to live with
more self-respect in Vermont. He sees the drivers identification card as
much more than a piece of plastic. For us it represents dignity and
hard work that weve done here on this [legislation] and an improvement
for the lives of our whole community.
But some critics of the
bill remain concerned about migrant workers use of the Vermont ID in
other states and for federal identification.
On any of these
folks its not always easy to track them, said Sen. Peg Flory, R-Rutland,
who has called for stringent rules designed to preserve the integrity
of the Vermont license as a form of identification. If I go with my
Vermont license and I move to New York, I want to make sure the state of
New York will honor my Vermont license.
Sen. Rich Westman,
R-Lamoille, who supports the bill, said its a very contentious issue on
both sides of the debate. I have heard from a fair number of people in
my area who say we shouldnt be giving [migrant workers] preferential
treatment, Westman said in a phone interview.Online shopping for iphoneheadset from a great selection of Clothing. We are going to take some heat.
The
central bank said Tuesday that 40.93 debit cards were in circulation as
of January, but spending averaged only 209 baht per card per month. In
practice, this means only one per cent of consumers are using debit
cards for purchases.
"The Bank of Thailand is coordinating with
the Revenue Department to determine if tax reductions might motivate
business owners and debit card holders to use debit cards to pay for
goods and services," said BoT Deputy Governor Thongurai Limpiti.
She
said the tax department also is studying measures on how to encourage
more use of debit cards, as well as the impact such a switch would
affect the central bank if consumers switch from cash to
plastic.Shopping is the best place to comparison shop for drycabinets.
Mrs
Thongurai said that the bank also plans to improve "local switching" - a
system for clearing and settling domestic payment transactions via
local debit card.
Such a system will be more efficient and cost
less than than the current system employed by Visa and Mastercard, which
taps into the global network even for local transactions. The BoT will
start enforcing local switching by September, she said.
The bank
will also promote the integration of ATM systems among Asean countries
so that people in the region can make balance inquiries and withdraw in
all of these countries.
For the consumer, of course, it boils
down to TiVo's products, of which I remain a fan. TiVo sells three main
DVRs these days, starting with the entry level, $149.99 TiVo Premiere
model, which has two TV tuners for recording a couple of shows at the
same time. The step-up models, the Premiere 4 ($249.99) and the Premiere
XL4 ($399.The 3rd International Conference on custombobbleheads and
Indoor Navigation.99) each have four-tuner DVRs that let you record up
to four channels simultaneously, with the latter letting you store up to
300 high-definition hours.Shop for wholesale free shipping ear caps

Service
fees are lumped on top of what you'll play for the DVR itself typically
$14.99 a month with a one-year commitment, after which you go month to
month. Or you could pay $499.99 covering fees for the lifetime of the
box. So TiVo has never been cheap.
On St. Patrick's Day, the
company started selling a small plastic set-top box called TiVo Mini
that promises to extend the TiVo experience to a second TV in the house,
without making you buy a second DVR. Mini can't do everything its big
brother TiVo can do, but it comes pretty close. You can use it to watch
live or prerecorded television on that second TV, get Season Passes,
schedule recordings, browse TiVo "collections" (e.g., Academy Award
Winning Films, KidZone, etc.) and more. You can start a show in one room
and finish it on a TiVo Mini in another. The TV connected to the Mini
displays the same familiar TiVo interface and uses a regular TiVo remote
 control.
