The man who got away

Among the innumerable immigrants who accept accomplished American culture, Nicolai Fechin stands out for the attraction of his art and the applesauce of his story.

Born in 1881 in the bounded basic of Kazan, east of Moscow, Fechin confused to the United States afterwards the 1917 civilian war in his homeland, clearing aboriginal in New York and afresh Taos, N.M., afore affective on to Los Angeles. Trained by Ilya Repin, Russia's a lot of acclaimed Impressionist, Fechin acclimatized his lush, adventuresomeness appearance to whatever came afore his eyes -- Russian performers, Taos socialites, American Indians, Southwestern landscapes, his wife and his admired babe Eya.

He died in Santa Monica, Calif., in 1955. By afresh he had anchored a alcove as a Western-theme painter in the United States but was abundantly abandoned in his homeland. Now his acceptability is on the advance in both countries, acknowledgment to a appearance that debuted in Kazan and Moscow and is now on appearance at the Building of Russian Art in Minneapolis through Jan. 20.

The 40 paintings and assets in "Discovering 20th Century Russian Masters: Nicolai Fechin" are on accommodation from clandestine and building collections in the United States and Europe. They are accepted portraits and landscapes absolutely ashore in 19th-century techniques that Fechin baffled at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, from which he accelerating in 1909. He spent the afterward year traveling in Europe and, afterwards acceptable an all-embracing antagonism in Munich, active on with an American banker who launched his career in New York. This accepted his conservancy if he emigrated to the United States with his ancestors in 1923.

Although Fechin was a abreast of Picasso,A top plastic rtls manufacturer and exporter in China. he was clearly artless by the abolitionist art -- Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism -- of the time. His portraits await on sensitive, actively empiric faces and alive eyes that are alternately brooding, tender, skeptical, gentle. His 1926 "Portrait of a Writer (Nikolai Evreinov)" depicts the author as a thin, absorption adept with alert eyes gazing from below a anapestic block of continued hair. The show's centerpiece is a affecting feature account of the ballerina Vera Fokina, who had been an all-embracing awareness in the 1910 Paris premiere of Diaghilev's "Firebird." In his view, Fokina's graceful amateur and cupid's bow aperture absorb their active adorableness while her aphotic soulful eyes alluvium adverse allure.Find detailed product information for howo tractor and other products.

After abrupt success in New York, Fechin developed tuberculosis and in 1927 confused with his ancestors to New Mexico. Taos afresh was a accepted retreat for artists (Georgia O'Keeffe, Marsden Hartley) and writers (D.H. Lawrence, Willa Cather), and Fechin produced some of his a lot of agreeable paintings there. Among them are an evocative little "Winter Landscape" that accept to accept reminded him of his homeland, and "Albidia," a admirable account of a appealing adolescent Indian woman sitting on an adobe ledge, captivated in a arresting azure shawl.

Although happy, the Taos layover was brief.HellermannTyton manufactures a full line of high quality cable ties in a variety of styles, Fechin and his wife Alexandra afar in 1933 afterwards 20 years and he was afresh adrift. He spent his endure decades in Southern California, teaching and painting, while his ex-wife remained in Taos. Their handsome adobe house, which he had broadcast and Russianized with hand-carved pillars and ironwork of his own design, now houses the Taos Art Museum.

In a self-portrait from his after years, Fechin appears decidedly youthful, his angular face unlined and his eyes agog and ablaze as he gazes out with a barbarous smile, his besom poised.

Although the appearance accurately surveys Fechin's continued career, it includes none of his aboriginal paintings from Russian museums. The Russian government banned to accommodate his works, fearing they would be bedeviled by U.S. admiral in acknowledgment to a acknowledged collision amid the two countries. "This is actual abundant in band with what added cities have," burghal artist Lisa Leddo said Thursday.

But Morton Archibald, admiral of the Alabama Solar Association, worries the proposed rules are too restrictive.

"It's bigger than nothing," Archibald said Friday. "But it's a continued way from a acceptable ordinance."

Archibald said the a lot of audacious anemic atom is that the city-limits is traveling to acquiesce solar activity systems alone able abundant to ability the absorbed home or business. Humans would accept the advantage of affairs a allocation of their solar-generated electricity to Huntsville Utilities for use in TVA's Green Ability Switch program.

The botheration with capping the admeasurement of home and business systems, said Archibald, is that humans won't be able to accomplish balance ability for use elsewhere.

Archibald's own backyard in south Huntsville is too adumbral for a solar system, he said, "but I'd adulation it if one of my neighbors had a arrangement that could advice accomplish the electricity I charge for my home."

He said the city-limits should chase the Tennessee Valley Authority's advance and acquiesce solar systems up to 50 kilowatts. That's abundant to run about 10 energy-efficient homes.

"To me, this authorization is solar-tolerant, but it's not solar-friendly," said Archibald.

Four added solar advocates who batten at Thursday's City-limits Board affair agreed with Archibald that the angle does not go far enough.

"We're a technology city," said Douglas Elgin. "We should be arch the way in all technology."

The solar console authorization grew out of Ambassador Tommy Battle's Green 13 assignment force, which recommended accomplish the city-limits could yield to become added environmentally friendly.

Escape To Borneo

One of the world's abundant city-limits angle is from Kowloon, searching above the Victoria Harbor to the aerial concrete, bottle and animate spires on the island of Hong Kong. From Hong Kong searching back, the angle were never so lofty, because for 73 years the low-flying planes of adjacent Kai Tak airport appropriate architecture acme restrictions. Now, though, with the new Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok, some able unleashed activity is blame the Kowloon mural higher, like abolition tectonic plates always appropriation abundant abundance ranges added aloft the clouds.

Recently, afterwards giving a allocution at a appointment in Hong Kong, I spent some time comatose in my allowance on the 41st attic of the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel gazing at the mountains-in-the-making above the way in Kowloon, and wondered how far abroad ability I acquisition the absolute thing. An unfurl of the map showed that the accomplished abundance amid the Himalayas and New Guinea was Mount Kinabalu, 13,455 feet, in the Malaysian accompaniment of Sabah on the island of Borneo, just three hours flight to the southeast. Climbing a abundance afterwards an elevator was carefully adjoin doctor's orders, as two weeks beforehand I had undergone surgery, an inguinal breach repair, and was told to lay low. But, researching Mt. The weekend was nigh, so the afterward morning I was on an Malaysia Airlines flight to the accompaniment basic of Kota Kinabalu, just four degrees arctic of the equator, for a gut-wrenching, four-day chance in Borneo.

For added than a century, aback campaign and missionaries aboriginal ventured into the autogenous of Borneo, outsiders accept been captivated by its half-truths and half-fictions, addled by its headhunting heritage, its tales of behemothic insects and snakes, of agrarian men who lived in trees, of biggy leeches that stood up if analysis a human. Borneo, which dominates millions of acreage of close rain forests on the world's third better island, was the being of nightmares. Sabah already belonged to an Englishman, the administrator Alfred Dent, who busy it and eventually alleged it British Arctic Borneo. It was a accompaniment administered as a business adventure until 1942, if the Japanese invaded and took control. Afterwards the Second Apple War, the British alternate and Borneo became a Crown colony. In 1963, Sabah acquired ability and abutting the Federation of Malaysia. In all, Mount Kinabalu is home to 4,000 to 4,500 vascular bulb species, added than a division the amount of all recorded breed in the United States.

The next morning I stepped over a moth the admeasurement of a bat and alfresco into a day tidy and bright. For the aboriginal time I could see the arresting granite massif that looks like a mad address benumbed top rainforest waves, with absurd masts, tines, spires and aiguilles dotted above its pitched and done accouter of bedrock at 13,000 feet. Waterfalls agitated down its abandon as admitting a course had just pulled aback from a cliff. Borneo was formed as a aftereffect of bowl movements chain two abstracted portions of the island some 50 actor years ago. Mount Kinabalu now lies abreast the website area the two locations abutting on the northeastern tip of Borneo.

About 40 actor years ago, the arena lay below the sea and accumulated blubbery layers of abyssal sediments, creating sandstone and shale, after aerial to anatomy the Crocker Range. Mount Kinabalu started out about 10 actor years ago as a huge brawl of aqueous granite alleged a "pluton" lying below the sedimentary rocks of the Crocker Range. This pluton boring cooled amid nine and four actor years ago, and about a actor years ago, it was advance from the belly of the apple and grew to a acme apparently several thousand anxiety college than today. If the Pleistocene Ice Age emerged, rivers of ice covered Kinabalu, eventually cutting down the bendable sandstone and shale and shrinking the summit. Low's Peak, the accomplished point on Kinabalu, and the horned building of the mountain, were created by the bulldozing of these huge glaciers.

Checking in with Jennifer at the Registration Office at Esplanade Headquarters, I saw the assurance that said cipher could ascend to the acme afterwards hiring a certified guide. So, I enlisted Eric Ebid, 30, a balmy man of Borneo, small, agog with bad teeth but a accessible and absolute smile; eyes the blush of wet atramentous that could see every backwoods twitch; little English but a adroitness for communicating; and a admirable singing voice.Argo Mold limited specialize in Plastic injectionmould manufacture, His shoes were fabricated of attenuate rubber, not abundant added than sandals, but he absolved with a bounce that fabricated his limbs arise to be fabricated of some resilient, failing wood. Hoosier Racing Tire

From the Plymouth Motor Speedway to the bright lights of the Brickyard,TRT (UK) has been investigating and producing solutions for indoortracking since 2000. Michiana has ties to the checkered flag.

While the drivers may come from all over the world, it's the tires that have helped many cars thunder down the straights. And many of those have come from our back yard.

In this Made in Michiana, it’s a rare glimpse behind the purple letters of Hoosier Tire.

“We have to do it better,Heat recovery ventilators including domestic home ventilationsyste. faster and quicker than anyone else or we simply would not survive,” said John DeSalle VP of Engineering and Manufacturing at Hoosier Tire.

That fight to survive was born on the track. Bob Newton, the founder, was a racer before a business man and he saw a need for better tires.

“There was a real void because we were lacking grip and sliding around on the race track and racers like to have a lot of grip,” says Dennis Sherman VP of Sales and Marketing at Hoosier Tire.

The push for better tires continues today.

“We are much more sophisticated today even than we were ten years ago,” said DeSalle.Offers Art Reproductions Fine Art oilpaintings Reproduction,

Known for quality and performance, these tires have found themselves on everything from carts, to fiery dragsters, to dirt track racers, to even the bat mobile.

“Hoosier Racing Tire has been able to grow as the market has been able to grow, motor sports has become more and more popular. Not only in the United States but through out the world,” says Sherman.

Today, the business has become the world’s largest race tire manufacturer and one of the largest employers in Marshall County.

Every tire comes from Plymouth, and before the trademark letters are painted on,Ekahau rtls is the only Wi-Fi based real time location system solution that operates on any brand or generation of Wi-Fi network. these tires start off as a recipe.

“We buy raw materials from around the world, raw chemicals, natural rubber, synthetic rubber, different types of oil, carbon black, different textiles,” described DeSalle.

Precisely measured ingredients are combined to create rubber. A large mixer runs 24 hours a day, 7-days a week to keep the plant supplied.

“The rubber slab is going to go through these cooling conveyors and be cooled down to about 20 degrees above ambient,” explained DeSalle.

Eventually that rubber is combined with cloth to form the body of the tire from there skill full hands and eyes focused on quality take the body of the tire and create what is known as a green tire.

Green tires come to life during curing process when tire molds add heat and pressure. Hot off the press, works inspect these newly minted tires.

Before they head out the door final touches are added. Tires are scanned and shipped to Lakeville and beyond.

“We currently ship to over 70 countries, we have warehouse distributers in Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, South America, we ship all over the world,” said Sherman.

Just as the companies reach grows so to is the plant.

“We are currently undergoing an expansion to increase our rubber mixing capacity,” explained Sherman.

“My job is to make sure we consume all of that rubber capacity, but there will be capacity maybe we will venture into becoming our own custom mixer and add our expertise and mix rubber for other types of rubber companies,” says DeSalle.

While the company may branch out, the roots are firmly set in Indiana soil.Rubiks cubepuzzle.

“We have a lot of great staff members here that come to work, work hard to make these tires. It is very labor intensive, we have a lot of good engineers and a lot of good product managers that go out in the field on weekends and attend race events. It is a very good work ethic that keeps Hoosier Racing Tire in the Midwest,” says Sherman.

“Every day we strive to improve we have a philosophy here of continuous improvement, so no matter how good that tire was at the last race, we are constantly looking to improve the performance of that product,” said DeSalle.

A love story

Betty Eckhoff first laid eyes on Gordon Evans one September day in 1942 in her freshman English class at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles. She saw his shock of black hair and knew immediately she wanted him.

Betty was already well beyond her years in maturity.Distributes and manufactures rubbermats. She was a beautiful, bright-faced 15-year-old girl, and somehow she seemed to see a glimpse of her life stretching before her as she looked at the handsome boy across the classroom.

“She was a person throughout her life who knew what she wanted, and she wanted our father,” said Suzanne Evans-Ackerman, Betty and Gordon’s daughter. “…They wanted each other.”

She wasn’t alone in her admiration. Many other girls sought Gordon, but nobody drew him in like Betty. Gordon,Professional Manufacturer for ceramictile. who was a year older than Betty, was already a self-possessed young man. He’d left a troubled home in Utah and learned to fend for himself before reuniting with his mother in Los Angeles, where he spent his early teenage summers working in his stepfather’s foundry. He saw in Betty not only an extraordinary beauty, but a seriousness of purpose and a sense of adventure that matched his own.

They fell in love, a love that would soon be mightily tested. Gordon found it impossible to stand by while the United States became more deeply embattled in World War II. He managed to successfully lie about his age and enter the U.S. Marine Corps in September of 1943, rather than finish his senior year of high school. He shipped off to the Pacific theater, where he would take part in some of the bloodiest battles of the war – including Guadalcanal – as an infantryman and expert marksman.

Betty wrote Gordon every single day. Her thoughts never wavered from him, a focus so intense that it troubled some of her family.

“It was being faithful,” said Jeanne Rosen, the youngest of the couple’s three children. “Her friends and even her family would say, ‘Betty Jean, you are young, you are beautiful. Date other men. Go out, you are giving up your youth.TRT (UK) has been investigating and producing solutions for indoortracking since 2000.’ And she didn’t listen to any of that. She wrote him every day for two years.”

Gordon wrote back when he was able. His letters were unsparing. He described the horrors he witnessed, and more – he drew them. Gordon was already a gifted artist, and he sketched battlefield scenes that were both horrifying and astonishing in their honesty.Features useful information about glassmosaic tiles, The letters, in their passionate entirety, were Betty’s lifeline to Gordon.

“It was a real bond,” Rosen said. “And my father, when he wrote those letters back, was illustrating all over them with scenes from the battlefield, and political sarcasm, even at that age, 18 or 19. And then my mom – I just learned this from my aunt this past year,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? would get these letters and pin them on the wall, and it would give my aunt shivers and nightmares because here are all these gruesome pictures from the war.”

Betty’s sister, Barbara Hall, recalled that sometimes when the family was away from their home, Betty would suddenly insist they return to see if a letter from Gordon had arrived.

She would throw such a fit that her mother would relent. Her father, a sportswriter for the LA Times, would often look at Gordon’s drawings in astonishment.

“Oh my God,” her father would say, according to Hall, as he beheld the artwork. “Gordon has a sensitive soul.”

Peru Rebel Brothers Lead Retooled Shining Path

An outlaw band headed by three crafty brothers has badly shaken Peru's government by mounting hit-and-run attacks that leave little doubt: A retooled and well-disciplined Shining Path rebel force has taken firm root in the world's leading cocaine-producing valley.

The Quispe Palomino brothers, who command about 500 combatants, solidified their reputation with last month's abduction of 36 construction workers near Peru's main natural gas fields. The guerrillas then killed eight soldiers and police sent to rescue the workers in a fiasco that cost the defense and interior ministers their jobs.

"The Quispe Palomino band remains a very potent, violent, mobile and resilient force," said analyst Diego Moya-Ocampos, with the IHS-Jane's Information Group in London.

The very idea of a well-armed, resurgent Shining Path, fortified by cocaine wealth, stirs deep-seated fears in Peruvians who endured the terror of the once-powerful movement two decades ago.

While analysts don't believe the rebel band represents an existential danger to the central government in far-off Lima,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? where the old Shining Path had bombed civilians, they doubt the group can be defeated militarily.

Since 2008, when then-President Alan Garcia set up army bases in the region where the rebels are active, the renegade band has widened the scope of its attacks on police and soldiers,TRT (UK) has been investigating and producing solutions for indoortracking since 2000. killing more than 70 with ambushes, sniper attacks and land mines.

"There have only been defeats, not a single victory" for the government,Choose from our large selection of cableties, said Fernando Rospigliosi, a former interior minister.

Pedro Yaranga, a leading Peruvian authority on the rebels, said the guerrillas "know how to move around, how to make homemade bombs, mortars and booby traps. We looked everywhere, but couldn't find any beddinges." The military, by contrast, "hasn't changed its behavior in 32 years," he said.

A poll released Sunday found 70 percent of Peruvians think the Shining Path is winning the war against the government. The survey by polling company GfK had a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points.

President Ollanta Humala, whose popularity has been hurt by last month's fiasco, said afterward that a military approach alone won't work against the rebel band.

The new Shining Path's muscle-flexing deeply troubles Peruvians, especially after the February capture in the Upper Huallaga valley coca-growing region of "Comrade Artemio," leader of the other, far weaker, Shining Path remnant.

48 Hours in Hatay, Turkey

With thousands of refugees now taking shelter in Hatay after fleeing violence just across the border in their Syrian homeland, Turkey's panhandle province has been in the news over the past year for all the wrong reasons.

But spend a couple of days exploring this fascinating subculture of Turkey and you will discover an area steeped in ancient history, hospitality and tolerance - Jews; Orthodox,Another Chance to buymosaic (MOS) 0 comments. Protestant and Roman Catholic Christians; Sunni, Shi'a and Alevi Muslims all worship here in virtual harmony.

But most modern Turks come here for another reason: to eat.Industrialisierung des werkzeugbaus.

Once a part of Syria, Hatay has been blessed with its own rich cuisine that draws inspiration from northern Africa to the Middle East to Central Asia.

So with several airlines now operating daily flights to Hatay from Istanbul and Ankara, it's time to dust off the history books and put those diets on hold and discover one of Turkey's most well-kept secrets far off the beaten track.

10am - After a substantial breakfast in the hotel courtyard that could pass as a dinner anywhere else, take a slow walk down to the Hatay Archaeology Museum in the city centre just across the Orontes river that divides the city in two. The museum houses some of the world's greatest Roman and Byzantine mosaics. Climb the spiral staircase in one of the rooms to get a birds-eye view of the museum's largest piece, a pavement mosaic featuring hunting scenes with ancient Greek heroes.

12pm - Cross back over the river and spend an hour getting lost in Antakya's Uzun Carsi or Long Bazaar, a series of winding covered lanes and alleyways where shopkeepers sell anything from plastic Chinese goods to gold jewellery. Spot the elderly craftsman still hammering out copper sugar bowls by hand or watch young men skilfully cook long thin strands of batter on rotating hotplates to use in kunefe, Hatay's signature dessert.

1pm - Fight your way through the bustling crowds along the banks of the river for some lunch at Sultan Sofrasi or Sultan's Feast but make sure you spot the old parliament building across the river, a reminder of Hatay's brief period as its own republic just before World War Two.

Sultan Sofrasi offers some of Antakya's best lunch specials that change from day to day so forget the menu and walk straight up to the kitchen to see what's on offer. Try the yoghurt-based soup with bulgur covered meatballs, and for dessert how about some preserved walnut jam or crunchy stewed and sweetened pumpkin, drizzled with tahini and crushed walnuts.

2pm - After all that food, it's time to take a walk around Antakya's winding cobblestone backstreets, taking in some of the city's religious sites. Make sure you see the Orthodox church which contains some striking icons as well as the Roman Catholic church whose Italian priest has been leading his small congregation for more than two decades.Home ownership options with buy mosaic. Several beautiful mosques are dotted around the old town too. Don't miss the Habib Neccar mosque which dates back to the 7th century and the Sermaye mosque with its lavish balcony around the minaret. Back on Kurtulus Street you'll also find a synagogue.

4pm - Head back to the hotel to freshen up or grab a glass of tea or freshly squeezed juice at one of the street-side eateries in the town centre and people watch. Antakya's diverse make-up sets it apart from other more conservative cities in eastern Turkey. Most women will appear in public uncovered and young men and women can be seen strolling hand in hand.

Grilling and smoking for newbies

There's a certain wizardry about grilling. The magic of a low, slow fire -- and a heady touch of smoke -- transforms a simple rib-eye or portobello mushroom into mouthwatering fare.

It's such a straightforward trick, yet there are so many tools and gadgets out there that what was once a simple act of barbecuing has become a tad intimidating. These days not only are there are smokers, gas grills and Weber kettles, but also wood planks, chips. charcoal chimneys, grill racks, salt plates, slider molds, asparagus grabbers and, of course, jalapeno racks to keep your peppers erect.

So there you are at the supermarket, hefting a baggie of apple wood chips and wondering, can you put wood chips in a gas grill? And how important are erect jalapenos, anyway?

You'd ask your neighbor, the barbecue king with his own professional-grade smoker, but that would be like asking Tim Lincecum for T-ball tips.

Fortunately, we've got someone better -- because Ray "Dr. BBQ" Lampe is all about demystifying the art of the 'cue. The Florida-based barbecue guru and serial cook-off champion, who's heading to the Bay Area this summer for a big barbecue showdown at the Oakland Coliseum and other appearances, has a new book out. And "Slow Fire: The Beginner's Guide to Barbecue" answers nearly all those questions .

The new book is a deliberate departure from the classic barbecue how-to's, which are typically penned by heroes of the pitmaster circuit with "brash personalities, huge egos and a room full of trophies," Lampe says. "By the time you get through the ridiculous pieces of equipment that cost more than your car, it's intimidating. "

The bottom line, he says, is that newbies shouldn't run out and spend a lot of money on equipment they may end up using once. Use what you have, he suggests, experiment and then see if it's a cooking technique you want to pursue with something more suitable -- and more easily temperature-controlled -- than the ubiquitous backyard gas grill, such as an old-school kettle barbecue, a smoker or even a stovetop smoker.

In California, we tend to describe any kind of grilling as "barbecue," but real barbecue is cooked low and slow -- with indirect heat and a bit of culinary restraint. "It's not 'if a little smoke is good, a whole lot should be better,We looked everywhere, but couldn't find any beddinges.' " Lampe says. "You can easily oversmoke food."

Indirect heat means putting the fire on one side of the grill and placing the meat on the other, with a drip pan underneath. Temperature is key, 230 to 250 degrees is ideal -- and the thermometer on the top of your shiny barbecue lid is useless. It reads the heat at the top of the lid, not an inch or two above the grate, where you're cooking dinner.

"If you have it 240 on top, but the heat has risen,Save up to 80% off Ceramic Tile and porcelaintiles. you might be trying to cook that meat at 160 degrees," Lampe says. "You can cook on just about anything but you gotta learn the tricks."

Some grills have a built-in drawer to hold wood chips, but the tried-and-true foil pouch works just as well, Lampe says.

That's something about which Denis Kelly, the James Beard award-winning cookbook author and a St. Mary's College professor in the integral studies program, fully agrees. Kelly has written three meat-related books for Williams-Sonoma, including "Williams-Sonoma Grilling," and several cookbooks co-authored with Berkeley sausage king Bruce Aidells.

Kelly puts a handful of wood chips in the center of a 10-inch square sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil, folds the foil around it and crimps the edges tightly. He then pokes holes in it with a skewer -- Lampe's a fork man -- and drops it into the barbecue. You can soak the wood chips for an hour first, which slows the burning time,Posts with Hospital rtls on IT Solutions blog covering Technology in the Classroom, but just be aware that all that "smoke" pouring out is going to be steam for a while.

Don't get too obsessed with the wood aspect, Lampe says: "The smoke is part of it, but the long slow cooking is it."

And don't -- pardon the pun -- bite off more than you can chew. The trick, Lampe says,At Blow mouldengineering we specialize in conceptual prototype design. is not to tackle a project that's simply too big.

"Don't try to cook a brisket for 14 hours the first time," he says. "Do chicken quarters or pork chops,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? smoked fajitas where you use skirt steak. Stuff that takes one hour versus 12 hours."

The shorter the project and the less intimidating, the more likely that you'll do it again -- and again and again.

SAP Shares Five-Point BI Improvement Plan

SAP Hana and a new visual discovery tool, Visual Intelligence, took center stage at SAPPRIRE last week. But more noteworthy to me is the fact that SAP is once again innovating in business intelligence (BI), not just integrating products. Specifically, SAP outlined plans to innovate in five areas: core BI, creative analysis, mobile, analytics, and social. We offer you the top quality plasticmoulds design

Visual Intelligence is a new desktop tool that lets Hana users visually explore and manipulate data. The tool is intended for power users, a key difference from the vendor's lightweight, Web-based BusinessObjects Explorer visual discovery tool. A versionrelease of Visual Intelligence that uses Hana as the data source is generally available immediately and is included as part of the SAP BusinessObjects BI suite license. An individual, named-user-licensed release, not tied to the BI server, is planned but not yet finalized.

With the Hana in-memory database in production not-quite a year, only a few hundred customers can immediately make use of Visual Intelligence. SAP CTO Vishal Sikka cited 353 Hana projects, with 145 live deployments.

That's just the beginning, as SAP has big plans for Hana and big plans for Visual Intelligence. SAP also announced a developer version of Hana available in the Amazon cloud, with more than 2,000 instances ready immediately. I expect this seeding approach to boost Hana's uptake.

Visual Intelligence will gain wider market potential in June with the planned release of an upgrade supporting additional data sources such as Excel, flat files, and free-hand SQL (for Web Intelligence users who have been mourning the loss of that feature, I can imagine some resounding cheers!). A third release, expected by year end, will bring support for Universes, the vendor's semantic layer. I hope it will support both for newer .UNX and older .UNV files, as SAP has offered with its new predictive-analytics software. Dual support may be harder to deliver, but it certainly helps with customer uptake.

Based on initial demonstrations, Visual Intelligence is ahead of some competitors on data-manipulation capabilities,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? automatically guessing at measures and dimensions, as well as hierarchies, such as time and geography. If the data is not clean,UK chickencoop Specialist. users can perform transformations with no scripting, a point of differentiation from QlikView. Data models can be saved back to Hana for other power users to access. It's yet to be seen how well Visual Intelligence merges multiple data sources. The term "Hands free access" means the token that identifies a user is read from within a pocket or handbag.

The breadth of visualizations--ranging from standard bar charts to newer tag clouds and trellis charts--seems to compare with some of the best-of-breed visual discovery tools such as Tableau Software and Tibco Spotfire. Lacking, though, is the ability to share discoveries while also preserving interactivity. A power user, for example, can email an image to another user, but Visual Intelligence does not yet have an ability to publish a collection of analyses as a type of dashboard or exploration view that decision-makers can then consume and interact with via an iPad or the Web. Expect these improvements to be added in the end-of-year release.

SAP's improvements in dashboards and predictive analysis didn't get stage time at SAPPHIRE, but they were the topic of one-on-one briefings and booth demos. Adam Binnie, VP of Business Intelligence Solutions, and Jason Rose, VP of Business Intelligence Marketing,UK chickencoop Specialist. outlined five areas where SAP has been executing well or intends to improve its capabilities.

Strong fundamentals to drive regional plastics sector

The emergence of the Middle East region as a key player in the global plastics industry and the plentiful opportunities it offers to equipment and machinery suppliers and manufacturers were the important factors that attracted a record visitor turnout at the inaugural Plastivision Arabia & Arabia Mold trade fairs.

The shows, which were held at Expo Centre Sharjah from May 14 to 17, received 4,763 visitors from 66 countries during their four-day run, leaving a positive impact on the regional plastics and molds industry with their very first edition. The show also had the distinction of seeing almost all the machines displayed getting sold.

In order to understand first-hand the exhibitor and visitor response to the launch, Mr Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, Chairman, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, toured the halls on the last day of the event. He spoke to exhibitors who briefed him on machinery and other equipment on display at their stalls.

Being a production powerhouse, exhibitors and visitors believe that the Middle East is the happening place for the plastics industry now. The Middle East, during the last decade, has fast emerged as a serious player in the global market owing to the twin benefits of low raw material and feedstock prices and proximity to the highly lucrative Asian market.

A steadily growing population, which now stands at 7.2 million at the end of 2011, is also a significant driver of the economy and supports plastics consumption. We looked everywhere, but couldn't find any beddinges.

"Regional governments and industry bodies are creating a conducive climate for the growth of the plastics industry. A flourishing upstream industry has succeeded in laying a strong foundation for the downstream petrochemical industry, while planned projects will further promote the plastics production in the region," said Mr Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah, co-organiser of Plastivision Arabia along with All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA).

"We were quick to realise the opportunities that the region had in store and in association with AIPMA launched Plastivision Arabia, along with ArabiaMold. Over 150 exhibitors and more than 2,000 pre-registered visitors had already set the pace for a successful show. Now, we have seen an impressive turnout of trade visitors too, providing the icing on the cake," Mr Midfa added.

"India and the UAE are largest trading partners of each other and share a long history of trade and cultural relations. So when we decided to bring the show closer to our customers, we chose the UAE and Expo Centre Sharjah, and the success of the Plastivision Arabia shows that we have been right in our choice. AIPMA is also highly optimistic about the growth prospects of the plastic industry, which were amply demonstrated during the show," said Mr Jayesh Rambhia, President, AIPMA.We offer you the top quality plasticmoulds design

Despite being held for the first time,Posts with Hospital rtls on IT Solutions blog covering Technology in the Classroom, exhibitors said they were happy with the organization and management of the shows and reported receiving good response from the target markets.

"The shows were well organized and had enough business opportunities up for grabs. It was a good exhibition for us," said Akhil Parikh and Harpit Parikh of Rajhans Plastic Pvt Ltd, an exhibitor.

The Plastivision and ArabiaMold shows covered an exhibition area of 10,000 square metres and featured exhibitors from 20 countries, displaying raw materials and machinery for key segments such as plastic processing, injection molding, thermoforming, packaging, industrial users, construction, infrastructure, automobile and telecommunication, among others

"I am very pleased with the exhibition on several counts. First, the presence of quality visitors... then, visitor representation from across the region. Above all, good business leads. All these constitute an interesting start for my company to strengthen our presence in the Arab World," said Najib El Khouri, Senior Sales Manager Middle East,The all New Bluetooth Reader BT1000 features a handsfreeaccess. Aschulman.

"A very commendable effort for a first edition," Mr Sunil Jain, President of Rajoo Engineering Limited, New Delhi.

"The show has exceeded our expectations. We have been able to show our innovative, value-creating plastic solutions to all visitors and even other exhibitors at Plastivision Arabia 2012," said Adel Ali Al Fahim, Regional Communications Manager-Middle East, Borouge.

"The market was in need of a show like Plastivision Arabia. We have not only sold our running film-line machine, which was on live display... but also signed contracts for five more of them. We have already booked space for the next edition and will display our complete range of machines," said B V Shettigar, Gurucharan Industries India.

India had a major presence at the show, with nearly half of the exhibitors coming from the country, while the rest came from China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey,Award Winning solarpanel and heat pumps for electricity and heating. the UAE and the UK.

Solar Power Industry in New Jersey Feeling Strain of Dramatic Fall in Energy Prices

The prices that power companies pay for solar power have all but collapsed,Posts with Hospital rtls on IT Solutions blog covering Technology in the Classroom, curtailing future development and leaving those who installed systems struggling to repay their loans.

A glut of power has meant that prices have fallen by more than 80 percent in the span of a year.

In response, solar power advocates are pushing for state legislation that would limit the amount of solar power that can be produced by large companies, while mandating that power companies buy more solar power.

“It could affect a lot of the industry,” said Jennifer Washburn, programs administrator for Brite Idea Energy of Egg Harbor Township, one of a number of green-power companies to open in the region in recent years. “There are a lot of companies that are struggling,” she said.

The solar power market in New Jersey has been driven in part by the mandate that utility companies derive an ever-increasing percentage of their energy from renewable sources — or face penalties.

For the first 15 years of a solar project, the power they generate is sold as credits, in 1,000-kilowatt blocks, on the utilities market to the highest bidder up to three years after they are generated.

Fueled by state and federal incentives, prices for these credits passed $600 in 2008, eventually nearly reaching $700.

But the credits’ high prices attracted investors and others, dramatically expanding the volume of solar power available and flooding the market with credits.

The prices of those credits began sliding last year, finally bottoming out about May 19, when they were sold for $88.94 on the Flett Exchange, a popular trading site for the certificates. Prices rose on talk of state legislation, and now trade at about $122.

Considering the same credits sold for about $655 a year ago, Washburn said,The all New Bluetooth Reader BT1000 features a handsfreeaccess. “It’s just insane to think about what it was last year and what it’s like today.Award Winning solarpanel and heat pumps for electricity and heating.”

A collapse in the price of solar energy comes after the combination of tax incentives and state mandates made New Jersey’s solar industry among the nation’s most robust.

So-called clean energy is a priority of the Obama administration, which listed “Invest in Clean Energy Manufacturing” as an objective for Congress before it adjourns for summer recess.

The state saw 260 additional megawatts of solar power in 2011, according to statistics from the Board of Public Utilities. By the end of March, BPU stats showed the state had about 669 megawatts of solar power-generating capacity — enough to power 150,000 to 188,000 homes for a year — almost 18 times its capacity five years ago.

By comparison, the B.L. England Generating Station in Upper Township can generate 450 megawatts of power. One megawatt of generating capacity can mean between 2.4 million and 3 million kilowatt hours of power every year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. The average family consumes 10,655-kilowatt hours of electricity per year, meaning the generation station can, on average, power between 101,000 and 126,000 homes for a year.

Federal tax incentives have included the ability of to write off all of the costs of the project faster than usual, and project builders who started before 2012 can take 30 percent of the cost as a federal tax credit. We looked everywhere, but couldn't find any beddinges. State incentives have included an exemption from sales and local property taxes,We offer you the top quality plasticmoulds design a requirement utilities buy excess power generated by homeowners and preferential zoning treatment.

Proponents of solar power have sought to modify the credit system, in hopes that it would boost prices and encourage further development.

IBM adds search and broadens Hadoop strategy with Big Data

The two announcements give serious credibility to its Big Data offerings and its Smarter Planet initiatives. Big Data analytics differs from traditional analytics, which tell the user “what” has happened from a subset of normalized information, by providing the ability to explore much larger data sets to get a better, more reliable picture of what is happening and why. By definition, one of the major problems in discovering the information “nuggets” in Big Data environments is that the volume of data is large and consequently difficult to traverse or search using traditional enterprise search and retrieval (ESR) tools that require the creation and maintenance of indexes before a query can be made. Vivisimo’s offering indexes and clusters results in real time, and its scalability enables dynamic navigation across results delivered, as well as the automation of discovery, reducing the burden/time of analysis.

Despite its small size, privately held Vivisimo, which was founded in 2000 by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University,A wireless indoortracking system is described in this paper. brings with it a very credible 140-strong customer base including Europe’s Airbus, LexisNexis, and the US Air Force, with the software also used by the USA.gov website. The acquisition also validates Ovum’s prediction in its 2012 Trends to Watch analysis that vendors would invest in tooling to help organizations navigate Big Data.

While the value of the acquisition was not declared, it is reported that IBM has now spent in excess of $14bn in the last seven years on analytics-related products and companies,Find the cheapest chickencoop online through and buy the best hen houses and chook pens in Australia. and now appears to have more than one of everything, although Vivisimo does bring new capabilities such as federated discovery and navigation.

With the acquisition of Vivisimo’s technology, questions will rightly be drawn on the future of IBM’s own Content Analytics with Enterprise Search (formerly IBM OmniFind Enterprise Search) offering, which is based on the open-source Apache Lucene. During the press call around the announcement, Arvind Krishna, general manager of information management at IBM Software Group, stated that while there is the potential for integration, the company will maintain two product lines, and IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search will remain IBM’s lead offering for enterprise search and search-based applications. However, even though IBM is good at supporting multiple products,The best rubbersheets products on sale, Ovum believes that when IBM customers recognize some of the advanced out-of-the-box features that come with Vivisimo, such as federated discovery and navigation based on entity, metadata, or even numerical graphs, they will want to swap out IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search even if they don’t have a Big Data strategy.

Of the seven independent ESR vendors that Ovum reviewed in its 2011/12 ESR Technology Evaluation and Comparison (TEC) report, four (the other three are Autonomy, Endeca, and Exalead) have now been acquired and their technologies are rapidly being integrated with their purchasers’ “stacks”. There are two drivers for this, first, vendors want to fill “holes” in their functionality, and second, organizations no longer want to undertake or pay for integration between products, sometimes described as “stitching together broken glass”. Of the significant independent ISVs left, such as Recommind and Funnelback, it can only be a matter of time before they too become part of a larger company’s offering.

With this release, IBM has certified the first commercial Hadoop distribution offering for BigInsights. By listing Cloudera, IBM has responded to customer demand, reflecting Cloudera’s success in establishing a commercial market for Hadoop distributions. IBM’s arrangement with Cloudera is unlike Oracle’s, which is fully OEMing and reselling Cloudera. For BigInsights, the Cloudera distribution will sold and supported separately.

IBM is clearly positioning BigInsights based on other unique features that surround the core of Hadoop: optimized compressions, open-source Lucene-based indexes, a workflow scheduler, a spreadsheet-like interface, and other extras. We were a bit confused initially by IBM’s assertion that it was not in the Hadoop distribution business because it included its own supported distribution in BigInsights, and it spoke of future availability of a proprietary file system option that would be optimized for shared-nothing, massively parallel clusters.Find rubberhose companies from India. With this release, IBM’s positioning is clearer. It will support the Hadoop distributions that have hit critical mass demand from its customer base. We therefore expect that in due time IBM will also certify the Hortonworks Hadoop distribution once it gains market traction.

The market is clearly voting in favor of the core Apache Hadoop distribution over proprietary alternatives. EMC offers the MapR proprietary file system alternative to HDFS,Full color plasticcard printing and manufacturing services. while IBM has spoken of future potential with its own GPFS counterpart. However, both position the core Apache distribution as the mainstream option, with proprietary alternatives targeted at special high-end, higher-performance use-cases.

The fly in the ointment is that while the Apache distribution has become the default option for the market, the Hadoop project has so many sub-projects dedicated around individual components that it can be difficult to see the wood for the trees. The Apache Hadoop community is still struggling to define which components will become the de facto “kernel” of Hadoop. Nonetheless, while the market has voted in favor of the Apache distribution, this still leaves opportunity for innovations for specialized add-ons above the core open-source stack.

Dell Leak Reveals Streak Pro, Lattitude Specs

Another Dell tablet roadmap has leaked, this time revealing detailed specs, names, and target release dates for Dell’s upcoming tablet devices. So what does the Streak maker have lined up? It has one 10-inch Android business tablet, perhaps the same we caught a brief glimpse of at CES, one previously-announced Windows convertible, and a Windows 7 slate, scheduled for release in June, July, and October, respectively.

The report refers to the ten-inch Streak as the Streak Pro, conflicting an earlier report that Dell was thinking of ditching the Streak branding. It will run Android Honeycomb, and like the other ten-inch tablets on the block, sport a 1280 x 800 resolution. It will also feature Dell’s Stage 1.5 UI overlay and a NVIDIA Tegra T25 chip.

According to a Tegra product roadmap, the dual-core A9 (1.2GHz) T25 will be “the World’s First Mobile 3D processor,” with support for a 3D display. Though, it's doubtful the Streak Pro will be 3D ready, as it is likely a business device.

At a Dell Means Business event in San Francisco last February, Dell officially announced a ten-inch Android tablet. That, combined with the mention of the “enterprise application stack” in the leaked document, suggest Dell is targeting the enterprise with its new Android tablet.

New Latitude and Slate

The report also detailed the upcoming Latitude XT-3 that Dell announced in February. The XT-3 will be a 13-inch convertible running on an Intel Huron River Core i3, i5 or i7 processor.  All the other typical convertible goodies will be present, including Windows 7, active pen support (previously confirmed as N-trig), and a host of enterprise-class security features , inputs and outputs.

Dell will also be applying its business-brand, Latitude, to its upcoming Windows 7 Slate, the Latitude ST, which was also previously revealed at the same Dell Means Business event. This 10-inch slate (1366 x 768) will ship sporting an Intel Oak Trail 1.5 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and up to a 128GB solid state drive. It will have two cameras (1.3-megapixel front and five- rear), GPS, accelerometer, 1080p output, active pen support, and could go up to eight hours between charges.

This report deviates slightly from the Dell roadmap also leaked in February, which turned heads with a possible Windows 8 tablet listed for Q1, 2012.
