Looking Back

Del Oro teacher Bob Lasley was honored to participate in a mathematics summer institute at Oregon State University.

Royer Park, in Roseville, was the site for the Taylor family reunion. From Loomis were the families of Walt Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, Sady Callison and Frank Nute.

Mrs. Jonell Hansen and Mrs. Theodore Nace were popular piano teachers in Loomis. Mrs. Hansen, a graduate of Sacramento State College, played in the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Nace was a graduate of the Conservatory of Music at College of Wooster.

Preparing for the Annual Placer County 4-H Fair were Kathy DeVilliers, Patti Takahashi, Janice Patterson, Judy Campbell, Catherine Lovelace, Edna McAdoo, Jean Loomer, Beverly Berquist and Susan Ferreira.

Roy Takemoto replaced a lot of dead pear trees with new varieties of plums on his 40-acre farm. Ted Uyeno improved his irrigation system at his ranch on Rock Springs Road.

Gay balloons and streamers adorned the Women's Club of Loomis as they hosted a Pie Party to benefit CARE. Loomis Basin Community Day was a huge success. Among the classic vehicles in the parade were Nick Mangiaracini's 1929 Ford Model A pickup, Ken Lutz's '56 T-Bird, and John DuPriest's '67 Mustang. Mounted units included those ridden by Kelli Thorson, Carey Weeks, Daniela Johnson, Tiffany and Susan Diehl. Ryan Everhart of the Loomis Community Nursery School pulled his dinosaur with his tricycle. Jimmy and Tony Black produce a ceramic tile mural. Stahr Liquor defeated Hardware Emporium in the Mountain Ball tournament. The Del Oro Band entertained the crowd while caricaturist Pancho Wilmarth sketched Jessica and her sister Julie.

New principals were Glenn Lockwood at Loomis School and David Dominguez at Franklin School.

Loomis News publisher Carmela Martin was overwhelmed by the number and quality of the responses in a writing contest for Loomis School District students. First place winners were Mike Pendowski, Melinda Nelson, Erin Osella, Alicia Walters, Rachel Immekus, Affinity Konar, Kevin Wood, and Craig Brammel.

The Loomis Community Nursery School had an Open House for interested parents and children. LCNS was a parent participation preshool located at the Methodist Church of Loomis.

Among the students preparing for the Placer School Western Picnic were Josh Anwyl, Jenny Tufts, Jashel Johnson and Trisha Repec.

Rush Limbaugh, KFBK talk host, was the planned guest speaker for the South Placer Republican Women's luncheon.

Sarah Stafford and Donavan Gray were Del Oro Golden Eagles of the Week. Sarah's track coach, Chuck Gardner, said, "Sarah is a super athlete and a great person." Volleyball coach Jamie Mathias said of Donavan, "He is the type of player every coach wants and every team needs."

The Del Oro Dance Ensemble presented "Pieces of Us" under the direction of Kathy Martin. Among the choreographers were Carlee Mason, Mallory Naake, Sara Provenzano, Susan Pugh, Sophia Stirdivant, Lauren Souza, Tessa Norton, Tessa Elzea, Cassandra Holt and Tara Lawson.

Stephanie Everhart, of Penryn, graduated from Azusa Pacific University.

Placer School student Kristina Anne Shatz was named a U.S. National Award Winner in Character and Citizenship. She was nominated by her teacher, Marie Mulvany.

Residents who lived on Del Mar Avenue all seemed to agree that something needed to be done about the traffic volume and speeding on their narrow country road.

Carolyn Wolsey, of Loomis, was living in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Peter Ucovich was elected Vice President of Finance at CSU Sacramento. Part of his platform was the hiring of more full-time teachers rather than part-time positions. His father, Miguel Ucovich, of Loomis, said, "Peter is way ahead of me. It took me four elections before I was successful."
