A host of sports stars, everyday heroes and celebrities, including a Birmingham-born actor and a poet from Worcestershire, are set to be recognised in the 2011 New Year Honours list.

Despite his success the poet has divided critics, some of whom say his writing is inaccessible and needlessly difficult.
