Law Schools Enact Change by Joining Clio’s Academic Access Program

As a new law school year gets underway, the changing legal education landscape is evident.

The University of California, Irvine School of Law, The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC) School of Law and the University of Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law join 100 other law schools and legal clinics embracing change,Airgle has mastered the art of indoor tracking, preparing their students for the practice of law through hands-on practice management tools like Clio.

“We just started running Clio in our legal clinics a few weeks ago and so far, we’ve had no complaints from the administrative clinical staff, the faculty, or the students. Everyone has found it easy to use and intuitive,” said Patty Furukawa, Assistant Dean of Information Technology Services at UC-Irvine School of Law.

From class assignments to cases, students at law schools and legal clinics using Clio get hands-on experience of what it’s like to handle matters, from intake to invoicing, and how to use technology in a law firm to collaborate with peers and opposing counsel.

”Clio has made a huge difference in the productivity and efficiency of our clinical programs,” said Doug Edmunds, Assistant Dean for IT at the UNC School of Law. “Our clinic faculty, staff and students are much happier than they ever were before with our former solution, and the support burden on me and my IT department has dropped significantly.”

The Clio Academic Access Program is designed for law students, faculty and administrators for use in the classroom and legal clinics. It gives law schools and legal clinics access to Clio for free,Airgle has mastered the art of indoor tracking, enabling them to provide real-world practice management experience to students.

“We went “live” on August 13th. One faculty member made the comment, “Where has this (Clio) been?!” The acceptance and the ease use by faculty,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? students and staff have been tremendous. The subject-oriented video tutorials make the learning curve “very shallow” and the “live” help of the staff in the Clio Customer Support Department is unprecedented! My only question now is “Why did we wait so long?” said Joseph E. Honrath, Jr., Clinical Operations Manager at the Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic at UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law.

UC Irvine School of Law, the first new public law school in California in more than 40 years, opened its doors to its first class in August 2009.

UCI Law seeks to create the ideal law school for the 21st century by doing the best job in the country of training lawyers for the practice of law at the highest levels of the profession. The law school’s innovative curriculum stresses hands-on learning, interdisciplinary study and public service.

In June 2011, UC Irvine School of Law was granted provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association. Provisional accreditation means that graduating students can take the bar exam in California without taking a qualifying "baby bar" exam.

UNC School of Law was founded in 1845 and is part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the nation's first state-supported university. The school has been approved by the American Bar Association since 1928.

Clio is a comprehensive cloud-based practice management, time & billing and client collaboration platform specifically designed for small and mid-sized law firms. Clio can be accessed using PCs and Macs as well as mobile devices including iPhone, iPad and other mobile devices.
