"We continue to remind people that they should wear long sleeves and long pants when they can," said Andover Health Director Thomas Carbone. Two Los Angeles malls will soon be outfitted with rooftop asolarpanel. "They should also use a good mosquito repellant and people should empty any artificial containers that they have in their yard such as wheelbarrows and tires which may be holding water."

Mosquitoes lay their eggs in water, and places such as kiddie pools, plastic tarps or even ladders which can serve as breeding grounds for the insects.

"The test we received last week showed that the increase in culex have leveled off," said Card.

Carbone said that nothing out of the usual is being done in Andover even with the high number of culex mosquitoes besides the weekly tests run by the state. If mosquitoes are found to have tested positive with West Nile then the town would consider spraying.

Last year, mosquitoes were found in June and September in North Andover on Osgood St., near the town yard. Pesticides were sprayed in the surrounding areas to attempt to get rid of the mosquitoes.
